DAY THIRTEEN - 05/08/11 - QUEST

We woke up early as usual and cooked breakfast as we were on duty. We ate and washed up and then had a series of group photos in front of our gateway, as well as patrol photos which was especially nice because our patrol were able to have Kathryn and Rosie in our photo.
After we had finished taking all the photos, we went down to our final module activity which was 'Quest'
When we got there, we were quite late because of the photos. Kev and Alan had gone to the leaders meeting and Kathryn had gone to meet some people who she knew but hadn't had a chance to meet up with yet. We were given a pink wristband to tell us which quest group we were in, and our patrol went into the first section.
This comprised of a few small activities such as being blindfolded while one of your team mates told you how to do a giant on floor jigsaw puzzle and one where we had a hook connected to a rope each which we had to use to pick up a model castle and move it. Afterwards, Pink moved onto the next section which was the maze. In the maze, there were different activities, each assigned to either blue, yellow or red. When you completed the activity you were given the colours number. To get out of the maze you had to say all of the correct colours numbers. We found lots of yellow activities but eventually found the other two and got out quite quickly compared to most people.
We then had our lunch and said goodbye to Kathryn who had come over to quest to say goodbye to all of us.
Afterwards, we went onto the next section, 'Conquest'. This was basically and obstacle course where the challenge wasn't really the course, but keeping together as a patrol the whole way round. We basically failed at that. This was good fun, and we saw Beth's mum as she was helping to run the activity as part of her being IST.
After conquest, we went onto the last section - 'Viking'. In this, we had to do lots of small activities such as building a ladder and sending someone up it and were rewarded with polystyrene with a symbol painted on it. When we had collected about six of these we finished. There was then a quest closing ceremony before we were given our quest bead, our final one. We then went over to the Islam tent where some people had henna done on their arms. While I waited, me and Meg were given/stole vasts amounts our popcorn from the Sikhism tent. When it got to ten to four, all the people in my patrol had to go back to camp because we were cooking dinner. We were having dinner early because it was Ellie's 18th Birthday and she had a party later in the evening. When we got there, we went off to the supermarket with Rosie and Kev. We'd got most of the food when Beth feinted. Kev, Rosie and Emma helped Beth while the rest of us had to try to take much more food then we could manage back to the campsite, with the help of some of the Avon IST.
When we'd got back to the campsite, I rushed off to 'The castle' (UK food house), where there was a birthday party for all the people who had theirs on the jamboree. After this, me, Josh and Ellie who had also had their birthdays at the jamboree - it was Ellie's 18th today!)
When we got back, I helped to finish cooking the dinner before we ate. Afterwards we went around the site swapping some more while some people went to Ellie's party in our sub-camp cafe. We stayed up quite late before finally signing in and going to bed.

Kathryn, our unit leader who sadly was unable to come to the Jamboree, sent an email round every day about what our unit had been doing from what Kev and other leaders/IST had texted her. You can find what she said about this day below:

"Friday

HAPPY 18TH BIRTHDAY TO ELLIE.  We woke up to sing Ellie Happy Birthday as today was her special day. We had put balloons and banners up and gave her cards.  I hope this is one birthday that Ellie will not forget.

We woke up early again and all of the unit were again up early making breakfast, they are doing so well, up and about and cooking breakfast for forty, something that I am sure most adults would struggle with.  All of the washing up done without complaint and ready to start the day by about 9am.  I bet some of you can not believe that I am talking about your children - they are a fantastic group of young people.

We all got into our uniform on and had a unit photo with us all then we had a separate photo for each patrol, Rosie and I shared the photo which was just lovely...  I then said goodbye to everyone as not sure if I get to see all the kids again, I had the best group hug ever and a lovely send off.  Just about kept the tears away.

I then spent a few hours catching up with a few people that I wanted to see and then I joined some of the unit on the next Module activity which was Quest.  I will be honest and say I have no idea what this was about, a maze, some people dressed in medieval outfits, some catapults and an assult course.  If you can put this all together then well done,  I was totally lost but everyone was having fun...
Everyone looks tanned and happy, they are all smiling all the time and are singing songs and doing hand clapping games,  laughing and just having so much fun.

I packed my ruck sack and spent an hour with Lucy having a coffee and then off on my epic journey home.

Ellie wanted to go out for a meal in the evening and took some of the unit with her to celebrate her birthday - she had then booked the sub camp stage for a little party.  Elie then wanted  to spend the night in a hammock with some of the unit in the Dream Zone.  I really hope that the rain stayed away and she got to do this  -  An experience not to be forgotten.

As I continued my long journey home, happy and smiling I was sure that the unit was happy and having fun.
